Con Speech On The Death Penalty

Hello, my name is Ashante Richards and I will be representing the cons side. As me being a con and against the death penalty, of course I’m going to have to have a few reasons as to why I feel the death penalty should be banned and that it is a violation of our 8th amendment rights. Me first reason as for why I believe the death penalty should be banned is because it is barbaric and violates the “cruel and unjust” clause in the Bill of Rights also known as the 8th amendment. A prime example of how the death penalty is cruel and unjust is because it is a jolt of between 500 and 2,000 volts, which lasts about 30 seconds, and is released into the body. The prisoner’s hands often grip the chair and there may be a violent movement of the limbs, which can result in dislocation and/or fractures. The tissues swell. Steam and smoke rises and there is a smell of burning. The convict’s eyeballs melt on the cheeks. The murderer often defecates, urinates, and vomits blood and drool. The body turns bright red as its temperature rises, and the criminal’s flesh swells. The skin stretches to the point of breaking. Sometimes the offender catches fire. Finally there’s a loud sound, like bacon frying, and the sickly smell of flesh fills the chamber. The second reason as to why I believe the death penalty should be banned is because life in prison is a worse punishment and a more effective deterrent. For example, the death penalty lasts for 30 seconds as for life in prison is a lifetime full of torture. I mean who wants to spend their life locked up behind bars eating little commissary lunches? Why do you think people try to commit suicide in prison? Because its torture. And the final reason as to why I believe the death penalty should be banned because revenge is not a form of justice. For example, The Birmingham news had an article written by Wilton H. Bunch, which spoke about why courts should seek justice and not revenge. > A murder is a crime against the state; in the legal sense, it is not a crime against a family. The trial is labeled, "The State of Alabama vs. John Smith," not, "The Family of Susie Jones, vs. John Smith." The family is not involved in the administration of justice. Justice is a function of the state. Also, > Jesus taught his followers should be involved with prisons, but in the role of caring for and easing the pain of those who were incarcerated. I find no place where he urged his disciples to give way to their feelings of hatred, anger and the desire for revenge. On the contrary, he commanded them to be meek, he desired them to be peacemakers, and he urged mercy. He quotes "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." So these are my three reasons why the death penalty should be banned due to its numerous violations.

Cat In the Hat:Freud

-The fish represents the mother because most of the things that he was telling the kids to do were things that the mother would tell them. It was like n unspoken rule because the mother wasn’t there.

-The superego is a stage where you have matured and learned right from wrong. The fish and the mother both know right from wrong. The kids also do but since they are not fully matured yet, its kind of harder for them to determine which one they would enjoy, having fun or being good.

-The fish is the total opposite of the Id. The cat would represent the Id because he is more hyper and those are some of the in that stage.
•The cat was hyper because that was how he
felt at the time.
•The cat wanted to influence the kids to
have fun. Little did he know that them
having fun would be them breaking the
rules.
-The ego had something to with the fish and the cat because in the end the both got what they wanted.
•The cat wanted to have fun and he did.
•The fish wanted the cat to leave and he did.

English: Thank You M'am

Have you ever read a story that keeps you wanting more even when it has already ended? Well if so, we’re in the same predicament. Thank You M’am by Langston Hughes left me wanting more even after it ended. To find out why I think this, keep reading!

This story started off pretty weird and violent but toward the end, everything changed. This story started off with a boy named Roger trying to rob an old woman for her purse. He said he wanted to buy a pair of blue suede shoes. Instead of the older woman fleeing the boy off like a regular person would, Ms. Luella Bates Washington Jones cared for the little boy. For example, she took Roger home and washed his face off. She didn’t just wash his face, she gave him a baptism. From that point on, Roger was a whole new person. Ms. Bates fed this boy and everything. The story started off as the woman and the boy being complete strangers but as the story went on, they started to bond. I thought that the story was going to end differently but it kind of ended off solid. It kept me wondering. The ending to me was kind of happy even though the last line was “then she shut the door.” I think it was happy because the lady had sympathy for the boy although in the beginning he had no sympathy for her. It was also happy because she cleaned him up and led him on to a new start so if he was to mess up, that would be on him.

In conclusion, this story was a good story with a solid, happy ending. It also taught you a lesson but more so in a read-in-between-the-lines kind of way. Although most stories have to have a closed ending for I to be considered a good one, this one was good although it was open ended!!

Philosophy of Government

I believe that freedom is more important than security. I think this because
in the ideal society we didn’t use the constitution, we made our own rules. We
didn’t have to use the constitution to write up a bill and stop the government
from using the ichip to watch us. Plus, we took them to court and sued them to
make them fix the ichip. If it were up to me, to make the perfect ideal society, I
would make the ichip the best selling chip in the country. Everyone would have
an ichip and nobody would get injured from this chip. This chip would not be
government filtered because the 4th amendment sates that all shall have privacy
so what makes them think that they shouldn’t respect our rights? The main goal
of the government is to fulfill every citizens needs and make sure that they are
satisfied. Also, make sure that they have no complaints, that the majority of the
citizens agree to the ideas, and make sure that they let citizens have a say in their
government.

Citizen protest was a major factor in the ideal society when the ichip was
first invented. Citizen Leon Watson was the ringleader in this cause when he tried
to lead a protest to try to impeach the president. The right to protest falls under
Amendment 1, which states; Congress shall make no law respecting the
establishment of religion or prohibiting free exercise. President Mink was kind of
upset but wasn’t really that worried because she believes that citizens have no say
in it. She may need to check her constitution. Will citizen Watson succeed in what
he is trying to do?

Things got pretty hectic when a bomb went off in the senate almost killing
Senator Daniels. Nowhere in the constitution says the rights of terrorism should
not stifle so they had no rights are doing that.

The death of citizen Malik Cooper has apple going through a crisis. If it
wasn’t for representative McShea from Apple corp., apple may have went out of
business. He used the constitution to back up their thoughts. Although Apple
won, Malik’s family had the right to go up there and state their opinion because
of the constitution; freedom of speech.

In conclusion, the constitution is a good problem solving paper. It lays out
legislating and judicial powers that can be used to stabilize this country. The ichip
is still on the market but up for better elements. I wonder what’s going to happen next!
